A comprehensive boating course for all types of boats. The course runs for 6 consecutive weeks and covers: Boat Handling, Docking, Required Safety Equipment, Knots, Navigation Aids, State and Federal Regulations, Marine Weather, Medical Emergencies, Charting on both paper and electronic charts and much more. Materials include a complete Manual and two companion CD's with Maptech electronic charts of the U.S. The materials cost is $$40.00 and can be shared by a couple. Local students receive a 50% discount. Completion qualifies for the WA State Boater Education Card, Marine Insurance discounts and ability to join the F.H. Power Squadron to take advanced classes. SWIM LESSONS Island Rec contracts with San Juan Island Fitness to provide swim lessons for Island children. Lessons begin with four year olds in the small pool advancing through refinement of swimming strokes with older swimmers. For infants and tot there is opportunity for parent led swim play times. In addition to the fee you pay, Island Rec pays an additional $$25 fee per child to SJIF. BEGIN TO SWIM classes will cover basic breath control; floating and beginning kicks and strokes in the comfort of the small pool and steps of the big pool. Following each lesson is 15 minutes of optional free play! Dance Happy offers ongoing Line Dance classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes at Noon and 5:15pm. Join anytime. Learn or improve skills in speaking, reading and writing English. The class focuses on conversational skills and workplace English. Classes are taught by Skagit Valley College language instructors. There is a free children's enrichment program providing childcare so parents can focus on learning while children enjoy the library. Lessons begin with four year olds in the small pool advancing through refinement of swimming strokes with older swimmers. For infants and tot there is opportunity for parent led swim play times. SWIM SKILLS PROGRESSION classes are offered in the big pool where all participants must be comfortable in cooler water, 3—4 feet deep. These classes serve a wide range of swimmers with skills beginning with kids comfortable putting their faces in the water and floating with assistance through more experienced swimmers working on refining strokes. These sessions include a semi—private assessment/ lesson; five 30 minutes group lessons and free swim time before or after each lesson. After all swim assessments are completed, participants will be assigned to a group lesson time based on their skill level. Class times are 3:15; 3:45 or 4:15pm.
